Frequently asked questions
Getting started
You pair the child’s device to your family account from the parent app, then confirm protection is active.
Yes. Tasks4Access supports both Android and iPhone (iOS).
Yes, Tasks4Access supports more than one child in the same family account.
A clear task list, a waiting-for-parent state once submitted, an approved state, and a simple reward outcome.
Yes. When creating a task you can choose “Use a saved chore” to reuse one you’ve set up before, instead of typing the same task out again each time.
Screen time and rewards
A parent sets the chore as a task and chooses which apps it unlocks. Once the child completes it and a parent approves it, the reward unlocks. See chores for screen time for more.
Yes. Any real-world task a parent creates (homework, reading, a chore, a routine) can earn screen time once it’s completed and approved.
Yes: this is required, not optional. A task must be reviewed and approved by a parent before the apps it unlocks become available.
Yes. Tasks4Access restricts chosen apps on a child’s device and gives parents control over what unlocks them, built around task-based rewards rather than blanket blocking.
By tying app access to real tasks instead of a fixed daily allowance: you choose which apps stay restricted, what task earns access to them, and for how long, then approve each one before it unlocks.
Each chore is set up as a task linked to the apps it unlocks. Once your child completes it and you approve the work, that reward is granted automatically for the period you chose. See how the reward mechanism works for more.
Yes: chores are one of the most common tasks parents set up, and completing one is exactly how a child earns access to a restricted app. See chores for screen time for the full picture.
Tasks and approvals
Yes, you can create any real-world task that matters for your family, from homework to household chores.
Yes, a task can be linked to more than one restricted app.
The task moves to Waiting for approval. A parent reviews it from the dashboard and approves it to unlock access.
A parent can mark it “Needs More Work” and write a short private explanation of what to fix, instead of approving it. Only your child and the authorised parent(s) on your family account can see that note: it’s private, task-specific feedback, never an open chat or general messaging. Your child gets a general notification that a decision was made (it never contains the feedback text itself), opens the app to read the note, and resubmits the same task. The note stays visible through resubmission and review. The reward only unlocks once a parent approves it. See our Privacy Policy for how long this feedback is kept.
App restrictions
Yes, you select exactly which apps stay restricted, rather than locking the whole device.
No. Tasks4Access only restricts the specific apps you select, it never locks the whole phone. Calls always continue to work, since the phone and dialer app can never be restricted. Any app you haven’t chosen to restrict, including text messaging, location-sharing apps (such as Life360 or Find My) and other family-safety apps, stays fully available, unless you specifically add that particular app to your child’s restricted list yourself.
Yes, you can configure a specific reward period, or leave an app available when the task deserves it.
The app returns to its restricted state until the next approved task unlocks it again.
iPhone specifics
iPhone restrictions use Apple’s own Screen Time (Family Controls) system, which deliberately prevents any third-party app, including ours, from seeing which real apps or categories your child has chosen. Instead, your child types a name for their own reference (for example “Instagram” or “Social”) so you can recognise it later on your dashboard. See our Privacy Policy for the technical detail.
Yes. On iPhone, a child can choose either an individual app or a whole Screen Time category, such as Social or Games, when setting up what to restrict, and name it for your reference.
They let you keep specific essentials, like Messages or FaceTime, always usable even while a whole category around them is restricted.
An optional PIN that stops your child removing an app they’ve already added to their restricted list, so they can’t quietly dodge a restriction. You can set, skip, or change it from device management in the app.
Devices
Device status is shown on the parent dashboard so you can see when a device was last seen.
The device health status will flag that protection needs to be re-enabled.
Yes, connected devices can be replaced or removed from the parent dashboard.
Yes. A child can have more than one paired device, and a task’s app restrictions apply across every device they have connected, so you don’t need to set restrictions up separately for each one.
Billing
From the parent app, open Account and choose Standard or Extended Family. Monthly billing is currently available through Stripe’s secure checkout; Tasks4Access never sees or stores your card details. Annual billing is shown as a coming-soon preview on the Pricing page and cannot yet be purchased.
Annual subscriptions are coming soon. The preview prices are £99.90 upfront for 12 months on Standard and £129.90 upfront for 12 months on Extended Family, each equivalent to 10 monthly payments. The displayed monthly equivalents are comparisons; an annual subscriber would pay for the year upfront and renew annually until cancelled. The billing terms shown when annual purchases launch will apply.
Up to 2 on the Standard plan, or up to 4 on Extended Family; see Pricing for details. This cap exists so one subscription covers one household, not multiple unrelated families sharing an account. A parent invites a co-parent from Account → Invite a co-parent in the app, and the other parent enters the code when creating their own account.
For a current monthly subscription, open Account in the app and tap Manage subscription to cancel through Stripe’s secure billing portal. Cancellation stops the next renewal and access continues until the end of the period already paid for. When annual subscriptions become available, cancellation will stop the next annual renewal; it will not by itself refund the unused months, except where required by law. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
You’ll get a short grace period to update your payment method from Manage subscription before anything changes. Your child’s device is never permanently locked because of a billing issue.
Tasks4Access doesn’t currently offer a free trial. See Pricing for current monthly prices and the coming-soon annual preview. You can cancel a subscription at any time to stop its next renewal, with access continuing through the paid period.
Privacy
Tasks4Access uses only the device permissions needed to enforce app restrictions and report device status. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
No. Tasks4Access does not read message content or private in-app content. See our Privacy Policy for details.
See our Privacy Policy for full details on how account data is handled.
Tasks4Access sends push notifications for the moments that matter: a task is assigned to a child, a child submits completed work for review, a parent approves a task, a parent marks a task “Needs More Work”, and a device’s protection is disabled and needs re-enabling. Every notification preview is short and generic; it tells you a decision or event happened, never the task-feedback text itself, which you only see after opening the app. See our Privacy Policy for how notifications are delivered and what device information that requires.
Your account and data
Tap “Forgot password” on the sign-in screen. We’ll email you a link to reset it.
In the app, go to Account → Danger zone → Delete account. You’ll be shown exactly what happens before you confirm, and you’ll need to re-enter your password to finish. If you no longer have the app installed, see our Account deletion page for how to request it by email instead.
If you’re the only parent on your family, every child, device pairing, task, and app restriction on that family is removed too. If another parent shares your family, only your own login is removed; the family, children, devices and tasks are unaffected for the remaining parent. See our Account deletion page for the full detail.
No. Cancel your subscription first from Account → Manage subscription in the app, or contact us, so you aren’t charged after your account is deleted.
Partner & Referrals
It lets creators, schools/PTAs, clubs, charities, and organisations apply to become a Tasks4Access partner, get a unique referral link and code, and earn a thank-you commission when families they refer subscribe. See the Partner Programme page for the full overview.
Five partner types: Creator, School / PTA, Club, Charity, and Organisation (a general organisation that isn’t one of the more specific types). Pick whichever best describes you when you apply at /partners/apply.
Yes — if you apply as a Charity, provide your charity registration number on the application form. We verify your charity’s identity by hand before your referral link goes live and before any payouts can be made, so a charity application takes a little longer to activate than other partner types. No bank details are ever collected as part of this, or any, verification step.
Apply at /partners/apply with your name (and organisation, if applicable) and a contact email. We review every application by hand; no bank details are ever collected as part of an application. If approved, you’ll receive your referral link and code by email.
Sharing your link or code lets a family enter it (or open it directly) when they sign up. A family can only ever be attributed to one partner, permanently, on a first-valid-referral-wins basis, and only if they’ve never paid for Tasks4Access before.
For monthly subscriptions: 30% of a referred family’s first successful payment, 20% of their second, and 10% of their third, with no commission from the fourth onward. Annual subscriptions are coming soon; when available, the first successful annual payment will earn 18% once, with no commission on renewals. The monthly and annual rates are not combined. The same 30-day pending and refund rules apply. Full detail is in the Partner Agreement.
Each commission is held pending for 30 days after the family’s payment, then becomes payable. Payable balances are paid out monthly by bank transfer, with no minimum payout threshold. Bank details are never collected through the website or app — they’re verified with you directly first.
The corresponding commission is reversed: proportionally for a partial refund, in full for a full refund or a successfully disputed payment. If it was already paid out to you, the reversal is applied as an offset against your next payout instead.
Sign in at /partner/report with just your contact email — there’s no partner password. We’ll email you a one-time sign-in link. Your dashboard shows your own visit, sign-up, and earnings totals, plus your payout history.
No. Partner reporting shows only your own aggregate totals — never a referred family’s name, email address, or payment details. See our Privacy Policy for how partner and family data are kept separate.
